How much Co2 can be reduced with one EV a year?

EVs can help us in achieving global goals on reducing the impact of climate change. If we could reduce carbon emissions, we can individually create a huge, positive impact on the environment.

In vehicles, it’s important to note that CO2 is not just emitted from the exhaust. When electricity is produced or when fuel is burnt, CO2 is emitted. It’s equally important to note that resource extraction for batteries or building a power plant also has a carbon impact.

Let’s understand this in terms of direct and life cycle emissions – direct being from the tailpipe, in the fuelling process, or as a result of evaporation from fuel systems; while lifecycle would be emissions that occur in the course of battery or vehicle production.

The majority of emissions come from vehicle operation – tailpipe and fuel cycle (EVs are known for near-zero tailpipe emissions). We all know the environmental degradation, which is caused due to emissions and electric cars help control the extent of this problem.

Let’s see How much Co2 can be reduced with one EV a year?

The European Federation for Transport & Environment (T&E) shows that on average, electric cars in Europe emit almost 3 times less CO2 than an equivalent petrol or diesel cars.

Coming back to tailpipe emissions, many EVs display the amount of Carbon Dioxide saved, giving owners a real indicator of their contribution to the environment. According to MG Motors, the ZS EV saves 120 grams of CO2 per km. So, if you drive for 1 lakh km, you save an estimated 13 tons approx. of CO2 from getting into the air. That’s your contribution to keep our planet healthier.

As Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are a major pollutant, we can all contribute in our own way to make our planet a little healthier. We are now more conscious about the ill effects of pollution; true – it comes at a higher price but it’s worth it.

As you now know How much Co2 can be reduced with one EV a year? Do you want to help fight climate change? Switching to an EV would be a good idea.
